The mix of dances taught listed in Michele’s note had something for everybody, from beginner to advanced, both new dances and classics. Besides the instructors (Michael Barr, Michele Burton, Michele Perron, and Jo Miller), hats off to Brian Bull for a fine job of DJ’ing, and preparing the open dance playlists with Cindy Aldrich. Each evening’s playlist was published so we all knew what was coming next – it’s the way to go! Thanks Brian & Cindy. As event organizers, Randy & Rhonda Shotts and staff did a great job. This was a very line-dance-friendly event. Looking forward to 2010. ***************** SUBJECT: Dance News From Orlando, FL USA FROM: Sandy Albano email:

) Thank you to all the wonderful dancers that attend Ohio's Largest Line Dance Party at the Canton Italian Festival on Saturday July 11. We had a huge turnout and a GREAT night of line dancing. From the first note of music at 7:00 PM till the last note at 11:05 PM the dance floor was filled with happy dancers. We had dancers that traveled from Pittsburg, Toledo, Columbus, West Virginia, Cleveland, Painesville, Mansfield and who knows where else just to line dance with us. At the high point of the evening there where close to 300 dancers on the floor. What a beautiful sight. Thank you to my Trace Of Country Dancers . I was so proud of you. Everyone looking great on the dance floor. I taught the crowd my dance MAMMA MARIA (which was choreographed for the festival) and we danced a wide variety of dances. The play list included: POKER FACE, AMAME, FEEL THE CHA, DREAMS CAN COME TRUE, MOJO RHYTHM, LITTLE RHUMBA, SIDORA SLIDE (done to LOW), MAKE MY DAY, LITTLE RED BOOK, RIO, TANGO CHA, EEEZEEE BOOGIE, TUSH PUSH, FEED THE FETISH, NOT LIKE THAT, STROLL ALONG CHA CHA, FIRECRACKER, BUTTERFLY WALTZ, HELLO STRANGER, LOCOMOTION, DOWNPOUR and many more. Of course we also danced my current dances like SAG, DRAG & FALL, BRAZIL, MAKIN' IT, DUCK SOUP, ADAPTABLE, SUMMER IS MAGIC, JENNY LEE & HAPPY RADIO. In attendance was my friend, instructor / choreographer Lawrence Allen from West Virginia who (with his students) demoed his cool easy hip hop dance called LOVE SEX MAGIC. Check it out on youtube. ) Hi, I totally agree that there indeed are other avenues (sites) for posting video clips of dances, though yipee is a dance _script_ site and its pot luck (maybe) if the video of your dance is on the front page of the site a couple of hours or a couple of days. The area I focused on within my comments was the video dance groups - not sites. By video dance groups I am of course referring to a small group of the same dancers who produce on a number of videos each week and have their own channel on youtube and then circulate the fact to instructors. These type of sites score vastly more hits from potential 'customers' of a dance than an unknown who places their dance onto youtube as a 'solo effort'. They also gain in reputation - just like Winnies channel did. I also mentioned regarding the taking of the video itself and the fact that there is more to it than just taking the video and placing it on youtube or wherever. I can give you an example (after consultation with the person involved). This is an extreme case, but in actual fact parts of it could be quite common – we just don’t get to hear about it. This guy used to Choreograph dances a few years back, then he was involved in a car crash - he lost one of his legs from the hip and is wheelchair bound. He now goes to Linedance socials just to watch and listen - and gets a real buzz from it. He has choreographed about a dozen line dances - all from memory/previous experience. He also has a video camera - but cannot get any suitable or enthusiastic dancers to perform the dance so that he may send it in to youtube etc. And he's the sort of guy will never play the 'im in a wheelchair-so do me a big favour' game either.. so where does he go.. ? To him, and others in their own situation its not as easy as 'have video camera-will dance' type of thing. Stay bright - Stay happy Hold on to your dreams Mike ***************** SUBJECT: SOMEONE IS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO DANCE IN WASHINGTON STATE I live in the Country side in Washougal, Washington State. ) ****************** SUBJECT: CHANGING STEP SHEETS Hi Carol As an instructor I would just like to reply to Guyton's Tuesday email, and ask him if it really was necessary to change the step sheets after people had taken the trouble to learn them and they were already on some dance _script_ web sites??? Perhaps if he had a new idea for steps he could either have called it a VARIATION and kept the original dance as it was giving people the choice of which to dance, or even kept the new steps in mind for when he wrote another new dance. It is very difficult to UNLEARN a dance once you have committed it to memory, and there are so many other good dances out there perhaps people just dont want to be bothered.
